hey, i'm cody
burstap.art is a place where I can dump my thoughts and photos. So far I have posted some reviews and opinions. I'm not sure how this site will evolve.
If you want to connect, shoot me an email at me@codypotter.com.
Why does this exist?
Because the way we communicate online sucks.
I do not care for the idea that all online connection needs to be happen on centralized platforms that are monetizing our attention.
I think the world would be a better place if we could connect with each other without the noise and manipulation of corporate social media platforms and algorithms.
I also needed a place to share my unpolished thoughts and ideas, separate from my work-oriented and linkedin-friendly content.
The stack (if you're curious)
This is a static site built with Astro. Pages and thought posts are plain markdown/HTML compiled to static files at build time. Nothing renders on the fly on a server. A little bit of Alpine.js handles the few interactive bits, like fetching and rendering the photo feed in the browser.
Photos are dynamic. They're pushed to their own S3 bucket by a small admin tool (a Lightroom export folder to upload script), so publishing a new photo involves no deployments. The site itself deploys by building with Astro, syncing the output to a second S3 bucket, and invalidating a CloudFront cache sitting in front of it.
All of the infrastructure, both buckets, the CloudFront distribution, the TLS certificate, DNS, is defined in source (IaC) using CloudFormation.
